Man City told to sign unsung Real Madrid hero as Savinho replacement

Manchester City have been advised to keep the winger merry-go-round going if it means they end up with Rodrygo.

The Blues are making late changes on the wing, having loaned Jack Grealish to Everton for the new season.

talkSPORT has since reported that Savinho might make a move to Tottenham, and in Spain, it’s suggested this could open up an opportunity for Pep Guardiola to consider pursuing Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.

Responding to such an eventuality, talkSPORT’s Ally McCoist said: “I think it would be a good move even for a lot of money.

“I think he’s an unsung hero in that team and I can see him being a success at City. He didn’t play much last season, that’s the only thing.”

Bellingham loves Rodrygo too

McCoist isn’t alone in his view, in fact, it’s one shared in the Madrid dressing room.

Speaking in February after a Champions League win over Manchester City, Bellingham was asked about his Brazilian teammate.

“For me, he’s probably the most talented and most gifted player in the squad,” he said of Rodrygo.

“The things he can do with the football. We’ll be messing around, and he’ll flick the ball up somehow, and you’re thinking: ‘How’d he do that?’

“I’m twisting my ankles if I try that!”

Though Rodrygo is undeniably talented, last season wasn’t particularly fulfilling for him — he started in 38 out of 50 matches but found himself lower in the pecking order compared to Kylian Mbappe and Brahim Diaz upfront.

Real Madrid’s season wrapped up without major silverware after losing the Copa del Rey final to Barcelona, and following a league Clasico two weeks later, MARCA reported that Rodrygo refused to play.

According to the outlet, he was reportedly frustrated with Bellingham and Mbappe taking the spotlight as the team’s rising stars, but Rodrygo refuted such claims via a social media post.

“Thanks for all the messages and concerns, I’ll be back soon,” he wrote. “Stop making things up.”

Despite his statements, Rodrygo played in only three out of the seven matches at the Club World Cup, and in June, talkSPORT mentioned that his representatives had discussions with Arsenal concerning a potential move.

He managed to stay put for two more months, but that could well change should Guardiola come calling.

City remains on the move as the transfer window draws to a close, and we’ve previously reported their interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, who appears poised to leave the Champions League victors.

City have so far spent £138.4million in the summer window in an overhaul after a season without a major trophy.
