Major League Soccer outfit Minnesota United have approached Manchester United coach Eric Ramsay about becoming the youngest manager in the league’s history.

Minnesota parted ways with head coach Adrian Heath in October following a disastrous 2023 campaign in which the club failed to make the play-offs. Heath had been in charge at the Allianz Field since Minnesota’s first ever MLS season back in 2017, and famously guided the team to four consecutive play-off appearances between 2019 and 2022.

The club have been on the lookout for a new head coach since then, with interim boss Cameron Knowles leading the team out for the final team games of last season, and Fabrizio Romano reports that their search has led them to approach Ramsay.

Ramsay has been at Manchester United since 2021, joining as a player development and set-piece coach during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s stewardship. Since then, he has become an integral member of the first-team coaching set-up under new boss Erik ten Hag, as well as being named Wales assistant coach by Rob Page in 2023.

The coach, hailed by Page as “one of the best young coaches in football”, has now been courted by Minnesota, who are keen to make Ramsay the youngest manager in Major League Soccer history at age 32.

The current record is held by New York City FC’s Nick Cushing who replaced Ronny Deila as the club’s first-team coach age 38 in 2022.

Minnesota kick off their 2024 MLS campaign with a trip to Austin, before hosting Columbus Crew in week two ahead of a trip to Orlando City, a former club of United favourite Nani.
