Marco Silva revealed he gave Carlos Vinicius a strong reminder after the Brazilian forward avoided being sent off for a headbutt on Max Kilman during Fulham’s 3-2 win over Wolves.

Wolves boss Gary O’Neil voiced his frustrations after the striker appeared to direct his head towards Wolves skipper Kilman in the second half and picked up a yellow card from referee Michael Salisbury.

This comes after Vinicius struck Thiago Silva in Fulham’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in October and Cottagers boss Silva called for his player to control his emotions on the pitch.

‘Any time that I’m doing this I’m doing so strongly because football players need to play football and not to react because the emotions are there and we need to control our emotions.

‘From me it’s clear that these sort of things can’t happen again.

‘I’ve spoken to him before, after the Chelsea game, and hopefully this was the last time.’

Fulham will have to deal with the threat of Mohamed Salah on Sunday if they are to claim back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

And Silva lauded the free-scoring forward, who has 15 goal contributions in 13 matches this season.

He added: ‘He’s a top player with top quality. In football it is so difficult to find players of top quality where they are so consistent and Salah has been that over the last five or six years in the Premier League.

‘He scores so many goals and has the capacity to score in many ways and to assist.

‘In the counter-attack or in open play he can find a way to do it and that’s why he’s doing so well.’

VAR was called into action for a string of incidents during Fulham’s win over Wolves, including Willian’s second-half added-time penalty which saw the hosts claim a late victory.

Silva wants the on-field referee to have more of an impact when officiating and for the emotions of the match not to be spoiled by the long decision-making process.

‘I want them (referee) to be more assertive and the person in charge of decisions to be bigger,’ he said.

‘I don’t like the game to be stopped so many times. I want decisions to be made quicker and for them not to take so long and for the emotions of the game to continue.’
