Burnley will demand £30million for Newcastle goalkeeper James Trafford, talkSPORT understands.

The Magpies are confident of finally signing Trafford this summer after several previous failed attempts to prise him away from Turf Moor.

But Burnley believe they can command a high price for their England World Cup hopeful, especially if they are promoted to the Premier League.

Trafford has kept 23 clean sheets this season and has not conceded a goal for more than 1,000 minutes.

A 19-time England U21 international, he emerged from Manchester City’s prestigious academy and established himself as one of the nation’s top young goalkeepers since his £15m move to Burnley in 2022.

This season he’s been in stunning form where Burnley have conceded a miserly nine goals in 33 games, 11 fewer than any other Championship side.

Hailing from Cumbria in the north, a region with many Newcastle supporters, he thrilled fans with impressive performances, notably against rivals Sunderland in January.

Trafford saved two penalties in the 0-0 draw, and after the second appeared to replicate the celebration of Magpie Alexander Isak.

His remarkable form inspired investor and NFL legend J.J. Watt to humorously suggest coming out of retirement to play football, as Burnley’s defense was proving exceptionally strong.

“You don’t allow a goal for the rest of the season and it’s a deal,” the 35-year-old said in a text.

In August 2024 talkSPORT reported that Newcastle had a £15m offer for Trafford rejected.

Yet they’ve also had issues in goal, with first choice shot-stopper Nick Pope struggling with injury.

Back-up Martin Dubravka looked set for a January move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab and appeared to bid an emotional farewell to supporters.

Yet he ended up staying, and has even signed a new deal on February 20, with Pope playing just once in 2025.
