New England’s leading scorer Carlos Gil picked up an injury that forced him to leave the game in the 23 minute.

They were also missing Brandon Bye in defense due to a season-ending injury.

Gil’s injury in the loss seemed to be the perfect icing on the cake to a long and stressful last three months for the Revolution.

New England dealt with former manager Bruce Arena’s saga and eventual resignation after ‘allegations that he made insensitive and inappropriate remarks.’

It then took the team a month to find a replacement for interim manager Richie Williams, in order to complete the overhaul of the coaching staff.

The Revolution also dealt with the loss of starting goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic following his transfer to Chelsea, while also seeing his replacement Tomas Vaclik fail to properly fill the void left behind.
