Former Premier League striker Asamoah Gyan has been told to pay compensation to his ex-wife after it was determined that he is the biological father of their three children.

Gyan and his ex-wife, Gifty, have been embroiled in a legal battle for three years, with the former Ghana captain insisting their kids were not his.

As reported by the BBC, the 37-year-old was ordered to take a DNA test which disproved his claims.

It was also ruled that the former Sunderland, Udinese and Rennes forward must pay 25,000 Ghanaian cedis (£1,729) per month for the children.

Gyan took to social media on Tuesday in which he replied to a user who posted an article on the court ruling.

He replied: ‘If I have 10pts and I keep quiet cos I’m matured, and you have 2 pts and you going find public sympathy, then it’s cool.

‘You are very funny. This is deep so think about.’

It’s said the court ruled that Gifty had made a non-cash contribution to the purchase of the homes, because she was the only one caring for the kids while Gyan plied his football career.

The four-bedroom house in Accra had been bought for her prior to their 2013 marriage.

Their marriage was annulled though following a petition by the ex-Sunderland star.

Gyan announced his retirement from football in June, having scored a national record 51 goals in 109 games for Ghana.

Impressive performances at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa saw him shortlisted alongside Diego Forlan and Wesley Sneijder for player of the tournament.

The tournament ended in pain for his country though as he smashed a penalty off the crossbar after Luis Suarez handballed an effort off the line in the dying moments of the game. Uruguay would advance to the semi-finals at Ghana’s expense.

He played for Sunderland between 2010 and 2012, scoring 10 goals in 34 appearances.

Gyan then moved to Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates, before later having spells in Turkey, India and retiring after a stint at Ghanian side Legon Cities.
