Stoke City goalkeeper Tommy Simkin has joined League Two Forest Green Rovers until the end of the season.

The highly rated shot-stopper impressed on loan at Solihull Moors during the first half of the season, which led to him being recalled by parent club Stoke in November.

The goalkeeper’s arrival comes at a crucial time for Troy Deeney’s side, who find themselves second-bottom of League Two.

‘I’m a passionate player. I want to win. My distribution is one of my strengths, I’m confident with the ball at my feet.’

Head coach Deeney said: ‘Tommy is the type of profile that only comes up once every five or six years. I’ve known about him since August when he was playing at Solihull Moors and they were consistently in the top four of the National League when he was starting every game for them.

‘It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to have a young player who is ready to kick on to the next stage of his career.’

Simkin made his first-team debut for the Potters in December’s Championship defeat by Sheffield Wednesday.

Forest Green have also signed midfielder Alex Rodriguez Gorrin on a permanent deal and winger Dominic Thompson also on a loan deal.

Left-sided wing-back Thompson joins from League One side Blackpool while Gorrin joins until the end of the season following the end of his contract at Oxford United.
