Manchester City saw their winning start to the Premier League season come to an end with a 2-1 defeat away to Wolves.

City defender Ruben Dias scored an own goal and although Julian Alvarez equalised for the visitors, Wolves prevailed as Hwang Hee-chan got the winner.

Mail Sport’s Tim Nash brings you some of the things that you may have missed from the game at Molineux.

It was the first day both Manchester clubs had lost on the same day since October 6, 2019 – and on that day, City were also beaten by Wolves, 2-0 at the Etihad.

It was also the first time since September 28 2013 that both City and Manchester United have lost a Saturday 3pm kick-off in the Premier League on the same date.

City have now lost two games in a row for the first time since last January, when they were also exited the Carabao Cup – at Southampton, beaten 2-0 – and 2-1 at Manchester United.

Frustration for Nunes

Matheus Nunes’s shortened first return to Molineux before his £53m move to Manchester City, completed a miserable last two games at Molineux.

In his previous game there – for Wolves in August – he was sent off against Brighton for violent conduct to earn a three-match ban.

Guardiola watches from directors’ box

Pep Guardiola watched the match from the directors’ box after picking up a one-match ban in the midweek defeat against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup – the first manager to do so.

Guardiola received his third yellow card of the season during the Carabao Cup defeat against Newcastle in midweek.

Under the new rule implemented this season, managers face a one-match touchline ban after accumulating three yellow cards in an effort to reduce dissent from the technical areas.

It remains to be seen if they will wear it again.

Repeat of 1974 League Cup final

City went into the game having beaten Wolves on their previous six meetings, with a goals advantage of 19-3.

The result was a repeat of the scoreline from the 1974 League Cup final between the teams, when goals from Kenny Hibbitt and John Richards won the cup at Wembley for Bill McGarry’s side.
