Chelsea’s clashes with Burnley have been largely one-sided in recent seasons.

The Blues have, rather unsurprisingly, dominated this fixture and are aiming to pile more misery on struggling Burnley when the two teams meet for the second time this season after the March international break.

Here is how the two sides have fared in their recent encounters.

Chelsea have often found goalscoring difficult this season, but Burnley made life relatively straightforward for the Blues back in October. Having said that, the Clarets did strike the first blow at Turf Moor, with Wilson Odobert putting the hosts ahead after just 15 minutes.

A Burnley man did net the second goal of the afternoon, but it was defender Ameen Al-Dakhil who bundled into his own net from Raheem Sterling’s cross just before the break. That proved the turning point in the fixture as Cole Palmer’s penalty put the Blues ahead after the restart, with Sterling getting himself on the scoresheet shortly afterwards.

Even the much-maligned Nicolas Jackson managed to fire home in the closing stages after a smart touch and finish from close range.

Chelsea had managed to notch four on their previous visit to Turf Moor as well, but also secured a clean sheet during the 2021/22 season. The Blues hadn’t managed to break through the Burnley defence in the first half but bagged four goals in 22 second-half minutes to put the Clarets to the sword.

Reece James’ powerful drive put Thomas Tuchel’s side in front, with Kai Havertz bagging a rare brace to make it three just ten minutes into the second period. Christian Pulisic added the cherry on top with 20 minutes to play and pushed the Blues towards Champions League qualification, with Burnley falling further from safety.

Burnley have only avoided defeat once in their last seven meetings with Chelsea, with the Clarets securing a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge back in November 2021. It was Kai Havertz – who has scored more goals against Burnley than any other English club – who fired the hosts ahead, but Sean Dyche’s men fought hard to stay in the match.

Burnley got their just reward for their dogged display, grabbing a late equaliser to secure a memorable point in west London. Matej Vydra was on hand to prod home the leveller with ten minutes to go following Jay Rodriguez’s header, with Chelsea left ruing their wastefulness in front of goal.

Tuchel’s first victory as Chelsea boss came against the Clarets, with the Blues securing a comfortable three points at the start of 2021.

It was two defenders that would help the German to his first win in the dugout, with Cesar Azpilicueta rifling a fierce effort beyond Nick Pope to put Chelsea in front, with Marcos Alonso’s excellent control and volley putting the game to bed just before stoppage time.

The result moved Chelsea up to seventh in the table, but they would finish the season in fourth and win the Champions League final against Manchester City.

Frank Lampard was still in charge when Chelsea dismantled Burnley in front of an empty Turf Moor earlier in the 2020/21 season, with Hakim Ziyech starring in a routine victory up north.

The Moroccan’s smart finish put Chelsea ahead halfway through the first half, with Kurt Zouma doubling their advantage after heading home Mason Mount’s corner. Ziyech then managed to grab an assist in an impressive display, with Timo Werner converting the winger’s through ball.
