Tottenham and Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal in principle for Brennan Johnson worth £47.5million.

The 22-year-old forward is expected to undergo medical in a bid to finalise the move ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline.

The deal also includes a 10 per cent sell on clause.

Forest have been ready to sell Johnson since the end of last season and had knocked back two bids from Brentford for their homegrown star, plus an initial enquiry from Tottenham on Thursday.

The Forest academy graduate has made 108 senior appearances for the club and has scored 29 goals, while he has provided 12 assists.

He played in Forest’s Carabao Cup defeat to Burnley in midweek, which now looks like his final game for the club.

If Johnson’s move proceeds as expected, Forest will set their sights on PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangare. Fee and personal terms not expected to pose a problem – it will then fall to the player to decide whether he wants to give up Champions League football to join Forest.

Nottingham Forest completed their ninth summer signing with the arrival of winger Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea.

The club also signed midfielder Nicolás Domínguez from Bologna on deadline day.
