Tottenham have made a last-gasp attempt to sign defender Trevoh Chalobah.

Spurs joined Nottingham Forest in the race to sign the 24-year-old after missing out on Blues Chelsea team-mate Conor Gallagher.

But time was running out for a deal to be completed before the transfer deadline.

Though not quite as prolific as they were following their promotion campaign, Steve Cooper’s side have welcomed a number of new arrivals this summer including Anthony Elanga, Matt Turner and Chris Wood.

They also secured Callum Hudson-Odoi on Friday, with the former Chelsea winger penning a three-year deal.

Chalobah’s planned move to Bayern Munich fell through after the German transfer window closed at 5pm.

Thomas Tuchel’s side had been looking at a loan move for the Chelsea defender, but will be unable to complete the move.

The Bayern boss is believed to be a big fan of the 24-year-old after giving him his debut during his spell at Stamford Bridge.

Despite making 33 appearances in all competitions last summer, Chalobah has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

A hamstring injury curtailed Chalobah’s pre-season preparations while Mauricio Pochettino has overseen an influx of new signings after been named the club’s new boss in May.

The defender is keen for a move away from his boyhood club, and Chelsea are equally eager to complete the deal as long as their valuation is met.
