DoorDash driver alerts police to hostage situation after delivering suspicious items

SWEETWATER, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) — A DoorDash driver alerted authorities to a hostage scenario after delivering suspicious items to a motel in Sweetwater, Texas, on Monday morning.

The driver contacted police after dropping off the items at the Sweetwater Inn on Georgia Avenue around 11:30 a.m. Police verified that the driver made the call out of concern regarding his delivery, though they did not specify what the items were.

Witnesses told KTAB and KRBC the suspect had items like trash bags, zip ties, bleach, a hatchet, and more.

Upon reaching the suspect’s motel room, officers discovered a hostage being held inside. The hostage was liberated before subsequently being arrested due to an outstanding warrant.

Following a brief standoff involving officers from the Sweetwater Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, the suspect was also taken into custody on warrants, alongside charges pertaining to the hostage incident.

The suspect has been identified only as a man from Snyder, Texas. No additional details, including his identity or specific charges, were available as of Monday afternoon.
