After much anticipation, FX has officially announced that Alien: Earth will return for a second season, putting fans’ concerns to rest over a month after the first season concluded. Although the exact release date remains under wraps, filming is slated to begin sometime next year.

Noah Hawley, who helmed the first season, is set to return as showrunner. The delay in the announcement might be linked to Hawley finalizing a new ongoing contract with Disney. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this agreement could expand his role beyond FX—where he has previously worked on hits like Fargo, Legion, and now Alien—to other Disney networks and platforms.

“FX has consistently supported bold, character-focused storytelling. From day one with Fargo, they have encouraged me to take creative risks and pursue the narrative wherever it leads,” Hawley remarked. “I’m thrilled to continue my journey with Alien: Earth alongside our dedicated partners, cast, and crew as we embark on the next chapter.”

The upcoming production will shift its base from Thailand to London. Whether this change is purely logistical or signifies a narrative shift away from the Prodigy corporation’s island headquarters remains to be seen. Meanwhile, fans of the franchise have more to look forward to, with a sequel to the 2024 film Romulus also in the pipeline.
