Anthropic is introducing a new capability to its Claude AI chatbot, enabling users to create AI-driven apps directly within the application. This enhancement, currently in beta, expands on last year’s Artifacts feature that allowed users to view and engage with the creations generated by Claude.

According to a blog post by the company, users can begin app development in the Claude application by activating this fresh interactive feature. By merely describing the intended creation, Claude will generate the corresponding code. Essentially, it mimics a coding experience where you can observe the outcomes within Claude. A video from Anthropic briefly demonstrates this, showcasing someone crafting a chat application.

Initial testers of this feature have crafted a variety of applications, ranging from AI-based games and educational tools to data analysis programs, writing aides, and even complex task management processes that utilize multiple Claude interactions. The apps will have the capability to communicate with Claude via an API.

Anthropic also wants people to share the apps that they make, and it’s encouraging that by making so that somebody else’s API usage of your app “counts against their subscription, not yours.”

The feature is available on Anthropic’s Free, Pro, and Max tiers.
