Google is beginning to release a long-awaited Google Health update that lets Fitbit users send their workouts, step counts, vital signs, and other wellness data straight to Apple Health, according to an earlier report from 9to5Mac. Once the Google Health 5.05 update is available, users can open the app, tap their profile icon, go to “Partner apps,” and select Apple Health to connect the two services.
Until now, that data flow worked in only one direction: Apple Health information could be pulled into Google Health, but Google Health data could not be exported back into Apple’s app. Anyone who wanted Fitbit data in Apple Health typically had to rely on third-party tools such as Power Sync for Fitbit, Fitbit to Apple Health Sync, or other unofficial workarounds.
Google Health took over from the Fitbit app in May, but the transition was not exactly seamless. Some users criticized the revamped interface, raised questions about the new AI health coach, and pointed to other early frustrations. Google has since moved to resolve at least some of those complaints as it continues refining the experience.
The same update also brings a new medical-record sharing option for users in the United States. Google says Smart Health Links can be used to share health records with a doctor, caregiver, or family member. To create one, users can open the Health tab, navigate to “Medical,” choose “Shareable records,” and tap the “plus” button. They can then pick which information to include and send it through a URL or QR code.
