Google has begun rolling out Wear OS 7 to the Pixel Watch 2, 3, and 4, bringing a wave of new features led by Live Updates. The addition lets users follow real-time events directly from their smartwatch, with information such as sports scores or food delivery progress now syncing across both Android phones and Wear OS devices.
The update also makes everyday controls more seamless. A new output switcher allows users to move audio between connected devices, whether that means sending sound from the watch to a pair of headphones or a Nest speaker. Google also says Wear OS 7 will work with upcoming smart glasses, including the prototypes shown at I/O last month, allowing users to preview photos captured by the glasses on their watch.
Some of the most ambitious additions tied to Gemini are not arriving immediately. Google says those features will launch later this year, including Create My Widget, a tool designed to let users build custom Wear OS widgets through natural language prompts. Gemini on Wear OS 7 is also expected to support multi-step app actions, such as making a reservation or placing a restaurant order from the wrist.
Beyond that, Gemini itself is getting a broader refresh. Google plans to bring its new “neural expressive” design to the assistant on Wear OS 7, along with support for Personal Intelligence, a feature that uses information from connected Google apps to shape more relevant suggestions.
Wear OS 7 also opens the door for third-party developers to create new Wear OS Widgets. Google says these should be easier to build and more dynamic than the custom Tiles introduced in 2019. For watches that do not receive the latest software, developers can continue supporting Tiles, while widgets on Wear OS 4, 5, and 6 will appear as full-screen tiles.
