Sony announced a $50 price increase on all PlayStation 5 “slim” models in the US starting tomorrow, August 21st. The upcoming prices for a PS5 Digital Edition, the standard PS5, and the PS5 Pro are $499.99, $549.99, and $749.99, respectively. However, you can still avoid paying the higher prices by purchasing a PS5 at Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart today.

The disc-based PS5 is already sold out at Amazon, and options may become more limited the longer you wait. Currently, you can get the PS5 Digital Edition for approximately $449 at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and Target. The standard PS5 is available for around $499 at Best Buy, Walmart, and Target. Additionally, the newer PS5 Pro can be found for about $699 at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and Target.

All three PS5 consoles support the same game library but have slight differences. The PS5 Digital Edition features a rearranged port selection and lacks a built-in disc drive, meaning it only plays digital games from the PlayStation Store. Sony offers an optional external drive for $79.99 if you prefer to play physical games or Blu-rays. The standard, disc-based PS5 shares the same tech specs, but includes an internal disc drive.

Meanwhile, the PS5 Pro boasts a better GPU, faster memory, improved ray tracing, Wi-Fi 7 support, and AI-powered upscaling. It doesn’t have an internal disc drive, but it’s compatible with the external drive made for the original PS5. The system also offers 2TB of internal storage, compared to the 1TB SSD in non-Pro models, providing more space for digital games. Although it doesn’t have exclusive titles, certain PS5 games have been updated to enhance visuals.

Sony’s price hike follows closely after Nintendo’s $30 increase on original Nintendo Switch models. Nintendo has also recently raised prices on certain Switch 2 accessories, but Sony asserts that “the recommended retail prices for PS5 accessories remain unchanged.” These price adjustments by both companies are due to tariffs on international goods, initially announced in April, which have fluctuated in response to President Donald Trump’s inconsistent policies.
