LG’s StanbyMe 2 is a cool TV at a questionably high price

LG’s StanbyMe 2 builds on its predecessor with several key improvements: the display resolution has been bumped up to 1440p from 1080p, and the screen is now detachable. Instead of remaining fixed on a rollable stand, it can be used freely in various setups. You have the option to mount it on the wall with a special strap or use the provided folio cover to stand it up like a tablet. Additionally, the new model includes more ports, featuring a USB-C port alongside the original HDMI and USB-A ports. The integrated battery allows for four hours of screen time, and it supports recharging via a power bank with a minimum capability of 65W.

We learned earlier that the StanbyMe 2 would be released soon, but the price point was recently revealed to be $1,299.99, which is $300 more than the initial model’s launch price. While it’s tempting to question the value in comparison to OLED TVs and high-quality monitors available for less than $1,000, the added flexibility of the StanbyMe 2 could appeal to those interested in a portable screen on wheels from a major manufacturer.

If the rolling screen concept excites you, there’s also LG’s Smart Monitor Switch, although it requires a constant power supply. Priced at $1,299.99 like the StanbyMe 2, it offers a larger 31.5-inch 4K IPS touchscreen display with a highly adjustable stand. It also includes extensive connectivity options, featuring three USB-C ports with 65W Power Delivery and two HDMI 2.0 ports.
