At the Anime NYC convention this year, Netflix revealed that Deathwatch is set to premiere on October 14th, with The Sandman’s Kirby Howell-Baptiste joining the cast. She will voice Zinnia McKenna, an agent partnered with Sam Fisher (Liev Schrieber) as they evade squads of skilled assassins. Though the glimpse is brief, Deathwatch’s new trailer provides a clear taste of the series’ sleek and intense action. Additionally, it suggests the series will be a serious video game adaptation. However, the upcoming season of Netflix’s Devil May Cry promises to take a different turn.
Expected in 2026, the second season of Devil May Cry will feature Dante (Johnny Yong Bosch) and Vergil (Robbie Daymond) in a life-or-death showdown. A teaser hints at the brothers enjoying their combat, exchanging gunfire and swordplay amidst chaotic scenes involving humans and demons. The anticipation is building around whether the new season will elevate its action sequences upon returning.
This strategy appears to be the aim for the next season of Blue Eye Samurai. Accompanied by a scene from Blue Eye Samurai season 2 showcasing Mizu (Maya Erskine) raiding a stronghold, Netflix released a behind-the-scenes featurette. The series co-creators Amber Noizumi, Michael Green, and executive producer Jane Wu offered teasing details on what is to come. Mizu’s path for vengeance seems poised to take her to London, possibly with a few supposedly-dead characters staging surprise comebacks. Season 2 remains in production without a confirmed release date, but the featurette indicates the creative team is hard at work, particularly with the show’s action choreography.
Netflix also unveiled new trailers for the latter half of Sakamoto Days’ first season, now streaming, and for Record of Ragnarok’s third season, debuting this December. The significant takeaway is that Netflix continues to invest heavily in its animated ventures. Although it might take some time for these new releases to drop, the hope is that the wait will be worthwhile.
