Unfortunately, No Dogs in Space has not released a fresh episode since July 2024. The fourth installment of its Can series brought a shortened third season—centered on experimental rock—to a close. Seasons one and two were excellent, to be clear, but the podcast appeared to be building toward a full-blown Krautrock deep dive, and the prospect was genuinely exciting. Instead, the episode ended with hosts Marcus Parks of Last Podcast on the Left and Carolina Hidalgo saying they planned to return with another season on punk, the subject of season one. Since then, the podcast feed has gone silent.
For serious music fans, No Dogs in Space remains essential listening. Across 73 episodes, the husband-and-wife team explores the stories behind artists including the Beastie Boys, The Velvet Underground, Joy Division and many others. Even listeners who feel they already know the history of landmark bands such as The Stooges are likely to come away with details, context and anecdotes they had never heard before.
Part of the show’s appeal is its commitment to depth. Parks and Hidalgo often spend multiple episodes—and many hours—on a single subject. Their two-part introduction to Krautrock, which places heavy emphasis on Amon Düül II, runs more than three hours, and by this podcast’s standards, that is relatively brief. The Replacements series stretches to nearly nine hours, while the Beastie Boys run goes even longer.
Despite those marathon runtimes, the podcast rarely feels like a slog. The hosts move smoothly between tightly researched, information-rich storytelling and looser, off-the-cuff detours. Their on-mic rapport is also a major strength; as a married couple, Parks and Hidalgo have an easy chemistry that keeps the conversation lively without undercutting the research. At the end of each episode, they also cite their sources, giving curious listeners a path to the original material or a chance to check the facts for themselves.
The podcast has not been formally canceled. As recently as a couple of months ago, Hidalgo was replying to Instagram comments and saying she would love to make more episodes. The possibility of a return has also surfaced more than once during livestreams. For now, though, listeners are still waiting for that promised Punk Rock 2.0 series to arrive.
