Back in 2023, Withings introduced an innovative health-monitoring device called the U-Scan at CES, designed to be installed in your toilet to monitor various health metrics. Unlike Kohler’s Dekoda, which employs a camera to assess stool, the U-Scan focuses on urine analysis. It uses replaceable cartridges to test your urine and then transmits the results to the Withings app, where users can receive personalized health advice.

Today marks the launch of the U-Scan in both the US and Europe, offering two different cartridge options. The U-Scan Nutrio is designed to monitor nutritional health by measuring four urinary biomarkers, including hydration, ketones, and vitamin C. Meanwhile, the U-Scan Calci assesses kidney health and the risk of kidney stones by tracking calcium levels and other parameters. Although a reproductive health tracking cartridge was initially announced, it will not be available at launch. Originally pending FDA approval, Withings has reclassified the device as a “wellness product,” bypassing the need for clearance.

The U-Scan is priced starting at $349.95 for the Proactive package, which includes the device itself, a charging and cleaning station, access to the Withings Plus service, and a Nutrio or Calci cartridge providing 22 tests lasting up to three months with biweekly usage. For $429.95, the Intensive package offers two cartridges for a total of 44 tests, allowing for more frequent testing. Replacement cartridges are available via subscription, costing $99.95 each or $179.95 for a pair.
