In the midst of the bustling announcements at today’s Google I/O, Google unveiled exciting new details about Wear OS 7, the latest evolution of its smartwatch platform. This update promises to enhance user experience by introducing iPhone-style Live Updates, a feature that made its debut on Android last year. These updates will allow users to seamlessly track deliveries and sports scores, displaying the information on either their smartwatch or smartphone. Additionally, Wear OS 7 will empower users to monitor AI-driven automated tasks directly from their wrist, offering a new level of convenience.
Wear OS is also set to undergo a transformation with an upgrade to its widget system. The current Tiles, which provide glanceable information, will be replaced by what Google calls “Wear Widgets.” These new widgets are designed to resemble Android widgets and will be available in both small and large formats, aligning perfectly with Android’s 2×1 and 2×2 widget configurations. This change aims to enhance usability and customization. Furthermore, Wear OS 7 will introduce AI-powered features, including Gemini Intelligence, a suite of personalized and proactive functions under Google’s new branding. In terms of performance, Google promises an “up to” 10 percent improvement in battery life for users transitioning from Wear OS 6 to Wear OS 7.
