Tech company CEOs aren’t just making their companies AI-first: this week, they’re using AI avatars to replace themselves in earnings calls.
Klarna, a company offering buy-now-pay-later services, used an AI-generated version of its CEO and co-founder, Sebastian Siemiatkowski, to present their Q1 2025 results in a video lasting 83 seconds, according to TechCrunch. The video notes that an “AI avatar” of Siemiatkowski is presenting, and the avatar starts by introducing itself as an AI version of the CEO.
Klarna has previously highlighted its utilization of AI within its operations. Recently, Siemiatkowski mentioned to CNBC that their workforce was reduced partly due to investments in AI. Moreover, this isn’t the first instance where Klarna leveraged an AI version of their CEO for sharing financial earnings.
Similarly, Zoom’s CEO, Eric Yuan, used an AI avatar during the company’s Q1 2026 earnings call. In a video, Yuan’s AI avatar stated, “Today, I’m using our custom avatars for Zoom Clips with AI Companion to share my part of the earnings report,” signaling a pioneering move among CEOs employing avatars for such calls. A note revealing the creation with “Zoom AI Companion” features in the top right corner of the video.
The human Yuan showed up for the live Q&A portion of the call, though. “I truly love my AI-generated avatar,” he said while responding to the first question. “I think we are going to continue using that. I can tell you — I like that experience a lot.” Perhaps not surprising from the guy who wants “digital twins” to attend meetings on your behalf.
