The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 is a great option if you’re considering upgrading your old Android smartwatch or exploring wearables for the first time. It boasts a fresh design, allows access to Google’s Gemini AI directly from your wrist, and introduces several new health and wellness features. This smartwatch hit the market on July 25th and is now available at a discounted rate of $299.99 for the 40mm model ($50 off) directly from Samsung. While Amazon offers it at full price, they provide a $50 promotional credit for future purchases when you use the code APSUE5MBXB6Y at checkout.

The Galaxy Watch 8 features a squircle shape, which some may find divisive. However, this design lays flatter on the wrist, and Verge reporter Victoria Song noted that it fits more comfortably in her review. This modification has allowed Samsung to create a thinner watch compared to the Galaxy Watch 7, yet it still maintains a battery life that lasts over a day per charge. Although it’s not drastically different from its predecessor, it’s a worthwhile upgrade for anyone with a Galaxy Watch 5 or older. Samsung’s current discount also offsets the $50 price hike, so it costs the same as the Galaxy Watch 7 at its launch.

For those accustomed to Google Gemini on other devices, the Galaxy Watch 8 brings this convenience to your wrist. You can create playlists, check the weather, and even ask Gemini about tasks like whether to scrub a sweet potato before peeling it.

On the health front, the Galaxy Watch 8 is equipped to monitor steps, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and general activity. If paired with a Samsung Galaxy phone, it can also perform EKG readings and detect potential sleep apnea. A new feature, Running Coach, tests your running with a 12-minute challenge, provides a score from one to 10, and suggests workouts based on your results. Additionally, there are sensors intended to advise whether you’re consuming sufficient fruits and vegetables, though they can sometimes be misled by colorful non-food items like a Cheeze-It.

The Galaxy Watch 8 is also available in a 44mm size, and that model is also on sale for $379.99 ($50 off) from Samsung.
