TikTok’s popular influencers are gearing up to debut new streaming series on Tubi, shaking up the content landscape.
In an exciting development, Tubi and TikTok have announced a collaborative Creatorverse Incubator initiative. This program is designed to assist content creators in crafting original long-form series for the Fox-owned streaming platform. Selected TikTok creators will team up with Tubi to produce a range of scripted and unscripted series, spanning various genres such as competition, dating, and game shows. Tubi has indicated that the first batch of participants will be revealed later this summer. Dawn Yang, TikTok’s global head of entertainment partnerships, emphasized that the incubator represents an opportunity to empower creators both on and beyond the TikTok platform.
“Our creators have cultivated deeply engaged audiences on TikTok,” Yang stated. “This partnership with Tubi offers the next wave of entertainers a chance to broaden their reach, craft larger narratives, and make a lasting impact with their creativity.”
The Creatorverse Incubator bears some resemblance to Tubi’s previous Stubios initiative, which offered emerging filmmakers the chance to develop projects contingent on achieving certain fan engagement metrics. While Stubios included social media personalities, the Creatorverse Incubator appears to be more heavily focused on leveraging the existing success of TikTok stars.
This focus aligns with the growing trend of studios investing in TikTok-inspired vertical content. However, Tubi’s emphasis on long-form content raises questions about audience interest in extended TikTokker narratives. The appeal of TikTok lies in its short, snappy content, which contrasts with traditional series. For the incubator to succeed, Tubi must find a way to generate excitement for this new format that bridges the gap between quick bites and in-depth storytelling.
