YouTube now lets you turn off Shorts

YouTube has introduced a new feature in its time management settings that allows users to set a zero-minute limit on Shorts, effectively eliminating them from the app on both Android and iOS devices. This update enhances the Shorts timer feature that YouTube initially revealed in October, where previously, the minimum limit was 15 minutes.

In January, YouTube expanded this feature, aiming to provide parents with greater control over their children’s screen time on Shorts. The promise of a zero-minute option was made, and according to YouTube spokesperson Makenzie Spiller, this feature is now “live for all parents” and is gradually being made available to all users, including those with standard adult accounts.

This tool is not just for parents but can be beneficial for anyone looking to reduce their scrolling time. When the set limit is reached, the Shorts tab will no longer display videos, instead showing a notification that the “Shorts feed limit” has been reached. Our tests indicate that reaching the limit also removes Shorts from the Home screen, allowing users to completely bypass Shorts if they choose. To activate this timer, navigate to the settings within the YouTube app, select “time management,” toggle on the Shorts feed limit, and set your desired time.
