USA internationals Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah came off the bench for AC Milan in the Champions League.

The Americans made their Champions League debuts for the Italian club Tuesday entering their 0-0 tie against Premier League side, Newcastle, in the second half.

Pulisic, who has previously made Champions League appearances for Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund, replaced Samuel Chukwueze in the 61st minute, while his international teammate came off the bench ten minutes later.

However, neither American was able to rescue Stefano Pioli’s team as the Italians settled for a point.

Chukwueze, also a summer signing, impressed in his start raising doubts over Pulisic’s role going forward but it remains unclear who will be the starter going forward for Pioli in the right wing spot.

Former Leeds manager Jesse Marsch believed Pulisic had nothing to worry about, insisting on CBS’s coverage that Captain America and Chukwueze could be effective for Milan together with the former able to switch on to the left wing.

Meanwhile, Musah seized his moment, shining after he came on for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, completing each of his 12 passes while winning the ball back several times.

He joined AC Milan on a €20million transfer (£17.1m, $22.1m) with a further €1m in add-ons this summer.

Musah, who was born in New York but grew up in Italy and England, signed a five-year contract with the Rossoneri in August.

Milan is controlled by the American investment firm RedBird Capital Partners led by Gerry Cardinale, and baseball’s New York Yankees are a minority investor.

It is playing in Group F, dubbed this season’s Group of Death, with Paris Saint-Germain and Pulisic’s former club Dortmund also standing between Milan and the knockout stages.
