The high-flying lives of celebrities are far removed from the day-to-day of the average Joe Bloggs, and the way they choose to get around is no different. The transport needs of celebs are wide-ranging: from sportspeople jetting between international tournaments to global pop sensations embarking on stadium tours; from influencers bounding between appointments actors shuttling to film sets and red carpets alike. With their unique transport needs – and their unique budgets – what are the most common modes of transport used by public figures?
Cars
The humble car is the single most popular form of private transport in the world, with nearly 1.5 billion cars worldwide – more than 405 million of which can be found in Europe alone. Far more than a simple form of transport, cars are also a status symbol of sorts, and one which carries a lot of cultural capital when you consider luxury super- and hypercars on the market today.
Professional footballers are commonly papped driving to team training in Lamborghinis and Ferraris, while world-famous business magnates show their wealth through brands with a luxury pedigree, such as Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Some stars are even defined by their collections of classic vehicles, with Jerry Seinfeld building a successful digital series out of pairing vintage cars with illustrious comedian guests.
Private Jet
When you think of celebrities and international travel, your first thought is private jets. Famous businessfolk use them religiously to efficiently travel from engagement to engagement, professional tennis players jet-set their way from grand slam to grand slam and influencers love to have their photos taken in them.
While private jet travel is common amongst the A and B-list, private jet ownership isn’t so much. This is because not every celeb needs immediate access to international travel options. Many instead use the services of private aviation groups like Vista Global, enabling them the luxury and convenience without the attributed running costs.
Tour Bus
The tour bus is a highly specialised form of transport for celebrities with specific career needs. Bands and pop acts use tour buses to take their show across countries and around the world, while sports teams sometimes use a form of tour bus to make away games and international championships.
Tour buses range in size, shape and spec, but the ones most often used by those in the public eye put comfort and convenience at the forefront. Ample storage bays mean expensive and delicate equipment can be safely shuttled from venue to venue; bed booths, living spaces and a working kitchen can be found inside, enabling musicians and athletes alike to rest up between engagements.
Public Transport
The last entry may surprise you, but celebs are no strangers to the practical utility of underground transport. Jay-Z famously took the London Underground to his own headline show at the O2 Arena in 2013, while Hollywood A-Lister Keanu Reeves has been frequently spotted using the subway system to travel around.
