Sean Dyche insists there’s ‘no point’ considering how the Premier League table would look if their ten-point deduction is overturned.

The Toffees are one point clear of the relegation zone despite their punishment for breaching the Premier League’s financial rules.

An appeal has been submitted and Everton are now waiting and hoping that the ten points they have lost will be added to their current total of 16.

The Toffees host champions Manchester City tonight, and ahead of the game, Dyche says that he is not tempted to consider where the Toffees could stand if they get the decision overturned.

Everton could be in contention for Europe if the appeal into their deduction is successful

‘There’s no point because we don’t know what’s going to happen,” he said. “It is what it is. I’ve told the players to look at where we are because that is the truth of it now.

‘That’s it. We don’t know what’s going to happen. We didn’t know it was going to happen the first time. Trust me everyone’s eyes were wide open on that. The eyes of everyone in football was.

‘Who knows? The only thing we can guarantee is what’s happening now. We can’t guarantee the next steps of the appeal. We have got to wait and see.’

Without their points deduction, the Toffees would currently be sat tenth in the standings on 26 points – five points behind sixth-placed Manchester United.

Traditionally the team that finishes fifth in the Premier League earns one of the two Europa League places handed to English teams, with the other spot given to the FA Cup winners.

However, should the winners of the FA Cup be a team that finishes in the top-five, the other side to make the competition would be the team sat in sixth.

This season there are three English teams in the competition, only thanks to West Ham getting a spot because they won last season’s Europa Conference League.

Instead of challenging for Europe, the Toffees are currently just one point clear of the relegation zone

The outcome into Everton’s appeal will be heard sometime before the end of the season.

In the meantime, the Toffees would like to extend their gap to the relegation zone, with just one point separating them and Luton Town who currently occupy the first of the three relegation spots.
