Stephen Lecce was born in the city of Vaughan, Ontario, to Italian immigrants who arrived in the late 1950s. He helped on then-PC MPP Al Palladini’s victorious re-election campaign in 1999 when he was 13 years old.

For his political science undergraduate studies, Lecce attended Woodbridge’s St. Margaret Mary Catholic Elementary School, Toronto’s St. Michael’s College School, and then the University of Western Ontario (UWO).

He was elected to the University Students’ Council at UWO and served as its president. Following graduation, Lecce joined Stephen Harper’s Prime Minister’s Office.

Lecce was hired after meeting Harper in person while serving as president of Western’s University Students’ Council. Lecce was deputy director of communications at the PMO before being elevated to director of media relations.
