The countdown to returning to Camp Half-Blood is nearly over, as the cherished universe of Percy Jackson is set to make a comeback. Teeming with gods, demigods, satyrs, and an array of fascinating (and fearsome) mythical creatures, the series is set to captivate audiences once again. After almost two years since its debut, Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 is slated to premiere on Disney+ this week.

This second season draws inspiration from the second book in the series, The Sea of Monsters—a follow-up to the first season’s adaptation of The Lightning Thief. The storyline follows Percy on a daring mission to save Camp Half-Blood from a monstrous invasion. His journey involves locating a potent magical artifact to restore the camp’s defenses, while also aiming to rescue his old friend Grover from peril.

The novel is rich with unforgettable scenes, and the cast was enthusiastic about bringing these moments to life onscreen. Walker Scobell, who takes on the role of Percy, expressed his excitement during a Zoom interview in early December, particularly about the character Polyphemus coming to life.

Polyphemus, a Cyclops and Percy’s half-brother, also a son of Poseidon, plays a pivotal role as he guards the enchanted Golden Fleece on his secluded island within the Sea of Monsters. “He looks incredible, and the entire island is amazing,” Scobell hinted.

Meanwhile, Dior Goodjohn, who plays Clarisse La Rue—the Greek demigod daughter of Ares and Percy’s adversary—shared her anticipation for the chariot track scenes and unleashing bullets from the Ironclad, the powerful weapon she wields on her warship, a gift from her father, the God of War. “I was really eager to shoot that scene and see how it would unfold,” she remarked.

Dior Goodjohn, who portrays Clarisse La Rue — the Greek demigod daughter of Ares and Percy’s rival — said she was looking forward to seeing the chariot track and getting to spray bullets from the Ironclad (referring to the gun she fires on the warship given by her father, the God of War). “I was really excited to do that one and see how that was gonna turn out,” she added.

Meanwhile, Charlie Bushnell (aka Luke Castellan, the demigod son of Hermes who betrays Percy in the Season 1 finale) said he was excited to continue the fight scenes between him and Percy in Season 2 and to get back into doing stunts.

“We have the most incredible stunt team, so getting to work with them again and just see what they cooked up, I was looking forward to that. And they did not disappoint. They came up with some crazy stuff,” he added.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 premieres on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 3 a.m. ET/midnight PT on Disney+. The first two episodes will be available at launch, with new episodes dropping weekly on Wednesdays.

Who’s In The Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 Cast?

The main cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is reprising their roles for Season 2, including the iconic trio: Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood.

Additionally, Charlie Bushnell will return as Luke Castellan, Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse La Rue, Toby Stephens and Virginia Kull as Percy’s parents, and Glynn Turman as Chiron / Mr. Brunner. Jason Mantzoukas will be back as Dionysus, and Lin-Manuel Miranda and Adam Copeland are also returning as guest stars.

New to the cast are Daniel Diemer, Tamara Smart, and Andra Day. Diemer will be portraying Percy’s Cyclops half-brother, Tyson, while Smart will play Thalia Grace, the daughter of Zeus. Day is stepping into the role of Annabeth’s mother, the goddess Athena.

Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal and Margaret Cho will be playing the Gray Sisters, three old women who share one eye and one tooth and run a taxi company in New York City.

Timothy Simons is also joining on a recurring guest basis as Tantalus, the new activities director at Camp Half-Blood, while Chiron is missing. Courtney B. Vance is taking over the role of Zeus, the God of Lightning and the Skies, following the death of original actor Lance Reddick.

What Will Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 Be About?

Like The Sea of Monsters, Season 2 will see Percy venture “on an epic odyssey into the Sea of Monsters in search of his best friend Grover and the one thing that may save the camp — the legendary Golden Fleece,” according to Disney’s official synopsis.

The description continues, “With help from Annabeth, Clarisse and his newfound cyclops half-brother Tyson, Percy’s survival becomes essential to stopping Luke, the Titan Kronos, and their impending plan to bring down Camp Half-Blood — and ultimately, Olympus.”

The next chapter will use flashbacks throughout the season to delve deeper into the backstories of specific characters, such as Annabeth, Thalia and Luke, Riordan teased in a September 2025 interview with TV Insider.

“The ability to see the backstory of Thalia, Luke, and Annabeth before they arrived at Camp Half-Blood adds a great deal to the story,” the author explained. “Young Annabeth is just adorable, and seeing her confront monsters at such a young age really drives home how terrifying it must [be] to grow up as a demigod.”

Jeffries didn’t play herself in the flashback scenes; her real-life younger cousin stepped into the role, and Jeffries gave her advice on how to portray young Annabeth.

“I got to talk her through it and how I act, and I got to give her some pointers about it because we’re so close,” Jeffries said to TV Insider. “She did amazing, first of all. She’s great at what she does. But being able to see it and watch that happen, it was definitely very helpful to put into perspective how I should play this out now.”
