The UFC is at UFC Apex in Las Vegas for this weekend’s UFC 252 pay-per-view card. Before the event takes place, the UFC will hold a press conference today with the fighters in the heavyweight main event. Those men, UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and former two-division kingpin Daniel Cormier, will join UFC president Dana White on the dais.
Miocic and Cormier first met in July 2018. Miocic came into the contest having set a UFC record with three consecutive heavyweight title defenses. Cormier was the UFC light heavyweight champ. Cormier became a dual UFC champion when he knocked out Miocic at the 4:33 mark of the the first round of that contest, which headlined UFC 226.
When the two met a second time, over a year had passed. The two faced off in the main event of UFC 241. Cormier looked to be in control of the fight through the first three rounds. Miocic changed his game plan for the fourth round and began landing powerful strikes to the body. Those punches hurt Cormier and seemed to sap whatever strength and cardio he had. With 51 seconds left in the fourth, Miocic finished the fight via strikes.
It’s been nearly a year since that scrap. The two meet for the third — and likely — final time on Saturday, August 15. Cormier has said the trilogy bout will mark the end of his MMA career.
You can watch the pre-fight press conference here on Thursday at 5 p.m. ET.
