England have been slammed by foreign newspapers in the wake of their dismal 1-1 draw with Denmark, with one Spanish outlet claiming that the Three Lions ‘smell rotten’ while Germany’s Bild labelled it a ‘Kane Crisis’.

Gareth Southgate’s side, who sit at the summit of Group C with four points heading into Tuesday’s match with Slovenia, have looked flat, listless and unconvincing at Euro 2024 so far, despite travelling to Germany as one of the tournament favourites.

England, who were negative and rigid in their approach against Denmark, took the lead in the 18th minute through Harry Kane before conceding a superb long-range effort from Morten Hjulmand to head in level at half-time.

Spanish newspaper Marca blasted the Three Lions’ woeful performance on Friday morning, leading with the headline: ‘England smell rotten’.

The outlet also wrote a separate piece ridiculing a prediction that England would win the European Championship, which was made ahead of the tournament by a psychic who claims to be related to Nostradamus.

‘Nostradamus’s prediction about the Euro Cup that at the moment sounds laughable,’ the mocking headline read.

Danish press delighted in the result, with national news outlet DR splashing a quote from defender Joakim Mæhle across the website that read: ‘We made one of the world’s best teams afraid of us’.

And even Chinese media chimed in on England’s disappointing draw, questioning England’s experiment of Alexander-Arnold in midfield alongside Declan Rice.

The newspaper, despite criticising England as a whole, suggested that Southgate should stick by Alexander-Arnold in the position for a little while longer, disagreeing with the likes of Roy Keane who slammed the Liverpool star for needing Rice to ‘babysit’ him. 

Scottish newspapers revelled in England’s misery with the headline: ‘The Lions’ Drain’.

Meanwhile, French media laid into the Three Lions in typical fashion, with newspaper L’Equipe slamming England’s players in their post-match ratings.

It handed Jude Bellingham and Alexander-Arnold 4/10 after the pair struggled to impress in midfield.

Southgate was also slapped with a 4/10 for struggling tactically throughout the match.

Alexander-Arnold and captain Kane, who received a 5/10 rating, were labelled England’s flops of the game by L’Equipe, who claimed the Liverpool star ‘lacked defensive rigour’.

The French newspaper said: ‘Rather convincing against Serbia in his new midfield role, the Liverpool full-back frankly struggled this time.

‘He lost a lot of balls (7) and recovered few (1), but above all he contributed, through his lack of defensive rigour, to his team’s big slump in the first period. Alexander-Arnold nevertheless delivered some wonderful long passes for Bukayo Saka.’

Their assessment of Kane’s performance was similarly critical.

‘Despite his numerous dropouts, Harry Kane ultimately had little impact on his team’s offensive play, which led to his replacement in the 69th minute by Ollie Watkins.’

Le Figaro said that England ‘were suffering against Denmark’ and wrote how they managed to ‘snatch a draw’.

And Le Parisien took delight in writing about how England stumbled into trouble against Denmark, telling how the Three Lions ‘were kept in check by the Scandinavians’. 

German newspaper BILD, meanwhile, ran the caption, ‘England must fear for round of 16’, on their highlights package of the match.

The outlet also claimed Southgate has a ‘Kane crisis’, labelling the Bayern Munich superstar England’s ‘supposed leader’ and claiming he ‘never really got involved’ in the game.

The opening to their damning article read: ‘Tame lions! England seems to be miles away from becoming potential European champions.’ 

Serbian newspaper Danas described England as ‘disappointing’, despite Aleksandar Mitrovic and Co failing to get anything against the Three Lions in their opening Euro 2024 match.

‘The English also disappointed against Denmark, but reached the round of 16,’ their headline read.
