Ant and Dec tease a first look at new I'm A Celeb spin-off Wild Frontier - promising 'surprise twists', 'danger' and another live final after this year's 'absolute disaster'

Ant and Dec have given fans a first look at their upcoming I’m A Celebrity spin-off, Wild Frontier, teasing a tougher celebrity adventure packed with “surprise twists” and plenty of jeopardy.

The fresh format, due to launch next year, will move away from the traditional camp set-up by sending famous faces into the wilderness in pairs, where they will tackle trials and challenges together.

In a teaser posted on the official I’m A Celebrity Instagram account on Monday, the presenting duo — currently shooting the series in Canada — suggested the celebrity teams will be pushed to their limits, while also appearing to nod to the chaotic fallout from this year’s troubled I’m A Celebrity South Africa grand final.

Standing alongside Ant in the remote landscape, Dec, 50, said: “It’s a brand new show, with an exciting new format. Loads of new trials and challenges, and we cannot wait to bring it to you!”

Ant, also 50, then revealed the major change at the heart of the series, explaining: “To take part you have to enter as a pair, compete as a pair and then leave as a pair. And those duos better be ready because out here in the Canadian wilderness, danger lurks around every corner.”

He jokingly summed up the threat with a single warning — “bears!” — prompting a nervous reaction from his longtime co-host.

Continuing with discussing the show, Ant went on: ‘I’m A Celebrity… The Wild Frontier launches next year and we’ll have a live grand final from London, for you to have your say and pick your winning duo.’

Dec then cheekily alluded to the last live final that the pair hosted, which saw chaos break out when winner Adam Thomas was embroiled in an on-air bust-up with Jimmy Bullard and David Haye following his feud with the former footballer in the camp.

Dec remarked: ‘Bears? And a live final?’ before turning to the camera to say: ‘This is more dangerous than I thought!’

The pair then confirmed that the usual I’m A Celebrity show from Australia will be back ‘later in the year’, with the new spin-off show beginning the following year.

However, while many fans were thrilled for the upcoming show, many questioned why the duo dared to front another live final when the last one was an ‘absolute disaster’.

The I’m A Celebrity South Africa final, which aired live in April, descended into complete mayhem as Jimmy accused Adam of being ‘abusive, aggressive and intimidating’ during an expletive row in the pre-recorded show last year.

As hosts Ant and Declan struggled to control the fiery trio, Gemma Collins and Sinitta stormed off the stage in fury.

Taking to the comments, fans had their say, writing: ‘The last live final wasn’t enough for you boys, clearly.’

Joining his co-star in the wilderness, Dec, 50, shared: 'It's a brand new show, with an exciting new format. Loads of new trials and challenges, and we cannot wait to bring it to you!'
