Costco Plans 14 New Store Openings Across the U.S. and Canada by End of 2026

Costco shoppers will soon have more places to chase bulk bargains, discounted gas and the chain’s best-loved Kirkland deals. The warehouse retailer is preparing to open 14 new Costco locations across the US and Canada before the end of 2026, with five warehouses slated for October and nine more expected in November. The October rollout includes new stores in Lee’s Summit, Missouri; The Colony, Texas; Amherst, New York; Lawrence, Kansas; and Camarillo, California. In November, Costco plans to add warehouses in South Meridian, Idaho; Vallejo, California; Chandler, Arizona; Newport News, Virginia; and Franklin, Wisconsin. Canada is also part of the expansion, with new Costco warehouses planned for Northeast Edmonton and Lloydminster in Alberta, along with East Windsor and Wasaga Beach in Ontario. Not every project is an entirely new market, however. In some communities, Costco is relocating to larger nearby sites. In Newport News, for example, the new store will replace a warehouse that has operated in the city since 1988.

For that Newport News project, the company purchased a 32-acre site just a few blocks from its current location and intends to build a 163,000-square-foot warehouse complete with a fuel station. The broader Costco expansion is not stopping with the 14 announced openings. The retailer is also evaluating potential projects in communities across California, South Carolina, Florida, Missouri, Massachusetts, Maryland, Arizona and Illinois. The latest wave of openings reflects the long-term growth plan outlined earlier this year by CEO Ron Vachris, who said Costco aims to open at least 30 warehouses annually over the next five to 10 years. About half of those new stores are expected to be in the United States, with the remainder targeted for international markets. Costco’s possible overseas growth areas include Canada, Mexico, Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

The timing comes as shoppers continue to look for ways to stretch their budgets amid stubbornly high prices on everyday essentials. For many members, Costco’s appeal goes beyond oversized grocery packs and household staples; its fuel stations have become another major draw. Costco currently operates an estimated 920 locations in the US, along with one standalone gas station. Earlier this year, the company opened its first fuel-only Costco location in Mission Viejo, California, marking a notable shift for a chain that had traditionally paired gas stations with warehouse clubs. The Mission Viejo site, which replaced a closed Bed Bath & Beyond, is open only to Costco members, who must use a membership card to purchase fuel. The company’s 747 gas stations are a significant part of its business and contribute heavily to annual sales.

In 2025, Costco gas stations accounted for 10 percent of the company’s total revenue. The retailer also moved to make fuel access more convenient, announcing in June 2025 that it would extend gas station hours nationwide. Under the expanded schedule, Costco fuel stations serve customers from 6am to 10pm on weekdays. On weekends, stations open at 6am and close at 8:30pm on Saturdays and 7:30pm on Sundays. Neil Saunders of GlobalData said the standalone gas station model could gain traction because Costco’s low fuel prices remain “wildly popular” with members. “Costco is building a new stand-alone location in Orange County to help manage demand that can’t be serviced at the station by its store,” Saunders previously told Our News Outlet. “If successful, there are other locations where this could be implemented.”
