John Bishop appeared on Friday night’s episode of The One Show wearing an orthopedic boot after breaking his ankle in a motorbike accident.
The 59-year-old comedian recently had to cancel his US tour dates because he was unable to take long-haul flights while wearing the medical boot.
Despite the injury, John joined presenters Alex Jones and JB Gill on the programme to give viewers an update on his recovery.
He took a light-hearted approach to the accident, which happened during a ride with astronaut Tim Peake, joking that “comedians aren’t as good on bikes as astronauts”.
Explaining what happened, John said: “I broke my ankle. I went out on a motorbike with Tim Peake. He was driving and I was trying to catch him, but I learned that comedians are not as good on motorbikes as astronauts.”
He added: “He was going through and I kind of went into a puddle and fell off.”

John continued: “It was the first crash that I’ve had. It was only a couple of weeks ago, and I thought, I can’t not come on The One Show with a boot on.”
Alex asked whether he was all right and offered to fetch a pillow so he could prop up his foot. John reassured her that he was doing fine.
He then teased Alex about her “motherly instinct” kicking in as she looked after him.
John had been due to perform six shows in the US and Canada in October as part of his Here’s John Bishop tour.
Earlier this week, he said he was “gutted” to announce the cancellations while displaying the medical air boot he must wear.
He explained: “One of the consequences I found out about breaking your ankle is that you have to wear this boot for six weeks.”
“When you’re wearing this boot, you can’t fly long haul, and because of that I’ve got to cancel the tours I was going to do in Canada and America in October,” he said.
“This is a message to apologise to everyone. We’ve had to cancel it for obvious reasons, as I’m not able to fly.”
The injury did not prevent John Bishop from appearing on television, where he joined Alex Jones and JB Gill to discuss his recovery

The comedian said he was “gutted” as he revealed the tour cancellations and showed viewers his medical air boot
He added: “Hopefully we’re going to reschedule the dates and let you know when we can do them again.”
He added: ‘So I apologise but under medical advice, I’m not to be a kn**b-head and crash my motorbike again.’
John added in the caption: ‘Unfortunately, as a result of my broken ankle, I am unable to travel to the US and Canada for my planned shows in October 2026.
‘I’m absolutely gutted. I was so looking forward to coming back over and seeing you all.
‘Your point of purchase will be in touch regarding your tickets. Thank you for all your understanding. I hope to see you all again very soon.’
John was set to perform in New York, Boston, Vancouver, Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto between October 15 to October 25.
Fans took to the comments to wish John a speedy recovery, they wrote: ‘Hope you have a speedy recovery soon John; Get better soon John.’
Another joked: ‘John you know when people say ‘Break a leg’ they don’t really mean it’.
This is not the first event that John has been forced to pull out of due to his injury, last month he withdrew from a charity bike ride with 50-year-old Olympic track cyclist Sir Chris Hoy – who has stage four prostate cancer.
In a video posted on Instagram, John said: ‘I’ve got an announcement to make. On Sunday, I was meant to be wearing this shirt for Prostate Cancer UK during the Stage 4 ride with Chris Hoy.’

Showing a shot of his broken right ankle in a leg brace, the Doctor Who star continued: ‘Unfortunately, I won’t be there. I won’t be able to wear this shirt this year because of this.’
Back in shot, John then explained the cause of his injury.
He said: ‘I went out for a motorbike ride today with Tim Peake, who’s a brilliant lad and a great motorcyclist.
‘And I learnt a lesson today – astronauts are better motorcyclists than comedians, and so it looks like I’ve broken my ankle, which means, unfortunately, I can’t do the ride.’
The Skins entertainer added: ‘But please continue supporting Prostate Cancer UK and supporting Sir Chris Hoy on his ride on Sunday.’
John signed off: ‘Thanks a lot. Gutted to miss it.’
He captioned the upload: ‘So gutted that I’m going to have to miss Sir Chris Hoy’s Tour de 4 this Sunday due to an injury. I was really looking forward to taking part and helping raise awareness and vital funds for prostate cancer research.
‘Although I won’t be able to be there, I’ll be cheering on everyone taking part. Please continue to support Chris, the incredible riders and this brilliant cause.
‘Good luck to everyone riding this Sunday!’
Chris led the well-wishes for John in the post’s comments section.
He penned: ‘Heal fast mate! So sorry we won’t get to see you but there’s always next year!’
Tim typed: ‘Gutted for you mate, you were a rockstar but so sorry you’re missing out on this. ‘Til the next time!! (sic)’
John – who has been married to his wife Melanie since 1993 – got into motorcycling in 2023 after his late father-in-law Mike gave him his scooter when he died.
