Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has become the target of online mockery after appearing to “hop like a rabbit” in an unusual new video promoting girlfriend Katy Perry’s latest single.
Perry, 41, posted the clip to Instagram on Thursday, showing herself and several friends dancing along to her new track Watch It Burn, which was released on June 25.
Wearing a red polka-dot romper with thigh-high socks, the pop star bounced to the beat alongside her friends while lip-syncing the song’s lyrics.
Trudeau, 54, later appeared in the background, dressed casually in khaki trousers and a green T-shirt, enthusiastically joining the moment with a series of hops.
“Ancient texts say that if you hop to this song you will get 1,000 years of good luck,” Perry wrote in the caption accompanying the video.
The footage soon spread widely across X, where users quickly seized on Trudeau’s dance moves and turned the clip into fodder for jokes.

‘Bro forgot he was once [prime minister] of a nation,’ joked another. ‘[Oh] how a relationship changes a man, it’s insane.’
‘Disgraceful that Trudeau is doing this! He is [13] years her senior,’ slammed someone else.
‘The concept of the ex prime minister of the second biggest country in the world doing a Katy Perry TikTok challenge,’ read a fourth post.
A fifth said: ‘How unserious is Canada as a country? This man was their Prime Minister, and he’s now a background character in a Katy Perry video.’
It comes weeks after Perry shared some rare insight into her relationship with Trudeau during an appearance on the Unfamous podcast.
‘I have love in my life now that’s transformed me,’ she gushed. ‘You think that when The Beatles say “all you need is love” it’s a cliche, but cliches are cliches for a reason.’
Perry also said that therapy and transcendental meditation have also helped her following her ‘tough year,’ which saw her nine-year relationship to Orlando Bloom come to an end.

The Roar songstress made her red carpet debut with the politician at the New York City premiere of the Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour concert film on June 8.
And she couldn’t help but gush over their romance and the stability Trudeau has brought to her life at the event.
‘I am very in love. Actually, that show was after I met the love of my life, and so I felt very anchored by that,’ Perry told People.
‘I’m a little bit like a rainbow kite. I fly super high and like, touch the veil, cosmos and sometimes I need to be anchored. So, to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now.
‘Every day is a fantastic journey, and every day is a chance to evolve, and to be a better person and do the right thing and to be a model for your community, for your family, for your world.
‘I feel like a more grounded person in so many aspects of my life,’ she added.
Perry and Bloom confirmed that they had called off their engagement in June 2025.
One month later, she was spotted grabbing dinner with Trudeau. They went Instagram official in December and have not been shy about flaunting their love ever since.
