First Lady Melania Trump joined President Donald Trump on the international stage Tuesday at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York City.
She arrived beside the president in a tailored black suit, standing with a slight smile as he spoke to reporters and criticized CNN correspondent Kaitlan Collins for attending despite his decision to bar the “fake news” outlet from the press pool.
“Melania arrived here showing what real first lady star status and elegance look like. Fiercely power-dressed in a tailored black suit with exaggerated shoulder padding and a cinched-in waist to create a dramatic outline, her white shirt with matching cravat neckline,” body language expert Judi James told Our News Outlet.
The first lady led the couple up the escalator, with President Trump following behind.
First Lady Shows Quiet Pride
Melania held the rail, while Trump did not, despite an incident last year in which the escalator stopped suddenly.
James said Melania’s serious expression during the president’s major UN address reflected her loyalty and support.
Her expression changed when the president praised her efforts on behalf of children during his speech, prompting her to smile broadly.
“Melania listened as he tried to fund her in the room but she was clearly quietly purring behind the modest looking wave,” James said. “Her cheeks were rounded and her smile of delight and pride slowly spread across her face.”
Later that day, the first lady welcomed 57 spouses of world leaders to an event highlighting her signature initiative, Fostering the Future Together.
The gathering took place at the St. Regis hotel in New York City.
Representatives from the United Kingdom of Great Britain, Northern Ireland, South Korea, the Philippines, Poland, Ukraine, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Panama, Canada and other countries attended the event.
Melania Calls for Global Youth Empowerment
“Together, we are a beautiful range of cultures, languages, histories, and traditions. And yet, we stand unified around one everlasting truth: the future of our world will be determined by what we do for our children today,” Melania said.
She called on the spouses of world leaders to help empower young people through technology, artificial intelligence and education.
“When nations speak with one voice, the world listens. Our collective influence is profound. Together, we can open doors, move markets, shape policy. And most importantly, we can change lives for the better,” she said.
Fostering the Future Together aims to support children through education and technology while working with private companies worldwide to provide resources for young people.
President Trump announced Monday that the initiative had secured seven new partnerships with technology companies, including Adobe, Amazon, Intel, Starlink, Google and Zoom, to benefit children.
Apple executive chairman Tim Cook and PayPal CEO Enrique Lores were also present at the event.
The gathering formed part of a full schedule of events Melania Trump is attending around the United Nations General Assembly.
On Wednesday, she will ring the Opening Bell at the New York Stock Exchange and launch the IMPERIA initiative for female CEOs and C-suite members.
