Valentin Broeksmit Biography
Who was Valentin Broeksmit ?
An informant allegedly working with the feds investigating Deutsche’s activities and its ties to former President Donald Trump has been found dead by a cleanup crew on a Los Angeles high school campus.
Valentin Broeksmit, 45, was found dead Monday around 7:05 a.m. at Woodrow Wilson High School located in the 4500 block of Multnomah Street, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office reported, ABC10 News San Diego reported.
Los Angeles County Police Department Public Information Officer Alba Mendez told DailyMail.com on Wednesday that Broeksmit’s death is being investigated as an “undetermined death.”
An autopsy is reportedly pending to determine Broeksmit’s cause of death.
Broeksmit was a film producer and a self-described “comically terrible spy” who reportedly had a drug problem.
Many people said the elusive Broeksmit was last seen in April 2021, but was still active on Twitter, where friends and the media could reach him, sources told ABC10 News.
Investigation
New York Times reporter David Enrich said Broeksmit provided the FBI with bank documents when the agency was investigating Deutsche Bank in 2019. Broeksmit was also subpoenaed by the House Intelligence Committee during its investigation into Trump’s ties to the bank, reported ABC10 News.
Scott Stedman, an investigative reporter for the website Forensic News, wrote on Twitter that the last time he spoke to Broeksmit was in January.
“He provided me and other journalists with documents from Deutsche Bank that highlighted the bank’s deep Russian connection.”
Death
Stedman, who said he is waiting to find out more about his colleague’s death, added: “I don’t suspect there was a crime. Val struggled with drugs from time to time.
Broeksmit’s stepfather, William, was a Deutsche Bank executive who took his own life in 2014, ABC10 News reported.
Stedman told the media outlet that Broeksmit never got over the death of his stepfather and said that he “consumed Val over the years.”
And he added: “Seeing his life end so soon is incredibly depressing.”
When news of his death broke, many of his peers were stunned.
“This is terrible news,” New York Times reporter David Enrich told RawStory.
Enrich said Broeksmit had been a “longtime source” and the “main character” in a book he was writing: “Dark Towers: Deutsche Bank, Donald Trump and an Epic Trail of Destruction.”
Enrich acknowledged that Broeksmit had problems with drug use and that he sometimes distorted the truth and often presented “far-fetched theories,” reported ABC 10 News.
“We had a complicated relationship, but hearing this is devastating,” Enrich said.
