A disturbing case of alleged child abuse has emerged in Texas, where a woman faces serious charges following the discovery of her 11-year-old autistic son in a dire condition. The child, found last May, was reportedly suffering from severe malnourishment and bore signs of neglect and abuse, leaving many in the community in shock.
According to Baytown police, Rachel Baylock’s son was discovered confined to a locked room, despite the presence of other individuals in the household. The boy, who weighed a mere 46 pounds, presented with decaying teeth and was covered in dried feces, shedding light on the appalling conditions he endured. Medical evaluations revealed the extent of his neglect, noting feces encrusted on his teeth, in his ears, and beneath his nails, as reported by KTRK.
Authorities investigating the scene described the overwhelming stench of feces and bodily fluids permeating Baylock’s residence. Baylock, aged 41, reportedly defended her actions by claiming her nonverbal son, who was unable to independently use the bathroom, would smear feces around his room.
The Baytown Sun highlighted instructions given by a Child Protection Services investigator to a police officer, stressing the urgency of medical intervention for the boy. However, Baylock allegedly dismissed these concerns with a profane refusal, criticizing medical professionals and expressing reluctance to seek their help.
In a further troubling revelation, Baylock admitted to replacing her son’s door with a lockable screen door to prevent him from fleeing the home unclothed. The boy’s grandmother, who characterized Baylock as an inadequate caregiver, reportedly managed to unlock the door on occasion to provide the child with food and water, underscoring the complex and tragic dynamics within the household.
Baylock admitted to replacing her son’s door with a screen door she kept locked because he would flee the home naked. Meanwhile, the boy’s grandmother — who described Baylock as “not a very good mom” — managed to unlock the door a couple of times to give him food and water, the Baytown Sun reported.
baytown police arrested Baylock on October 7. She allegedly told arresting officers that a cylindrical container on her belt loop contained her “baby daddy’s ashes.” However, testing concluded it was crystal meth, according to KTRK.
Baylock is charged with injury to a child and possession of methamphetamine. Her bond was set at $250,000.
Reports indicated that the 11-year-old boy is in foster care.
