Five arrested after police pursuit ends in multi-car crash in Melbourne's north-east

A high-speed police pursuit has ended in a multi-car crash and with five teenagers being arrested in Melbourne’s north-east over a series of armed robberies.

The four-hour police chase ended at the intersection of Manningham and Bulleen Roads in Bulleen when an allegedly stolen car collided with a number of other vehicles.

Police then arrested five teenagers who allegedly tried to run from the scene.

A 15-year-old, three 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old were arrested.

Police believe they were involved in a number of armed robberies across Melbourne while wearing balaclavas and brandishing machetes.

The first robbery allegedly occurred at a supermarket on Golden Banksia Drive in Officer about 12.20pm, where cash and cigarettes were stolen.

The same group are then alleged to have stolen cigarettes from a supermarket at the corner of Pink Bill and Timbertop boulevards about 12.30pm.

Police were then called to a supermarket on Gilbert Road in Preston about 1.25pm.

The group allegedly threatened staff, but it is not known what was stolen at this stage.

The group of teens then attended a supermarket on McDonalds Road in Epping about 1.50pm and threatened staff.

It is not known what was stolen at this stage.

Officers spotted the Subaru Forester in Wollert and began chasing it.

The car was followed through the suburbs of Epping, Thomastown, Bundoora, Greensborough, Watsonia, Rosanna and Heidelberg, before it collided with two cars at the intersection of Manningham and Bulleen roads in Bulleen.

There were no physical injuries in any of the incidents.
