His acting career started almost straight afterwards in 1989, with the role of Jerell in the film “Heartstopper”, written and directed by John A. Russo. After a minor role in the TV series “Equal Justice” in 1990, Jonathan didn’t have much success on screen for quite some time, but focused more on stage, and between 1996 to 2000 was a constant member of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, appearing in such plays as “The Taming of the Shrew” as Petruchio, then “The Three Musketeers” as Buckingham, and as Guy Jacobs in “Blues for an Alabama Sky”.

In 2002 he was cast in his first recurring role as Elque ‘Q’ Polk in the TV comedy-drama series “The American Embassy”, and was also chosen for the role of Henry Walker in the TV drama series “American Dreams”, subsequently appearing in over 60 episodes of the Primetime Emmy Award-winning series, which considerably increased his wealth. Then in 2005, he started portraying Daniel Goodman in the TV crime-drama series “Bones” (2005-2006), while in 2007 he was Ed Washburn in the Women’s Murder Club” (2007-2008). He then became focused on voice acting but returned to the screen with a major role in the sitcom “Last Man Standing” in 2012, as Chuck Larabee. He featured in over 45 episodes of the Primetime Emmy Award-nominated series, further increasing his net worth. Most recently he stars in the film “The Sweetest Christmas” (2017), next to Lacey Chabert, and Lara Gilchrist.

When it comes to his voice acting, he debuted in the animated film “Osmosis Jones” in 2001, and then gave voice to Dormammu in the animated film “Doctor Strange” in 2007. From there, he was the voice of Rios in the video game “Army of Two: The 40th Day” in 2010, and then voiced Galactus in the video game “Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds” (2011). Three years later he lent his voice to Tyrael, Archangel of Justice in the video game “Diablo III: Reaper of Souls”, while in recent years he was the voice of Ronan the Accuser in the TV animated series “Guardians of the Galaxy” (2015-2016), and Darkseid in the animated series “Justice League Action” in 2017, all of which added a substantial amount to his wealth.
