Last week, Nevada officials approved O.J. Simpson’s request for early parole — which he received after serving nine years in prison for a 2007 robbery and kidnapping.

In a statement issued to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Nevada State Police said Simpson, 74, has been on parole since October 2017, and it was to end on February 9, 2022. However, the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners conducted an early discharge hearing on November 30, 2021, and its decision to end Simpson’s parole was ratified on December 6.

In October 2008, Simpson was convicted in Las Vegas of directing five men — two of which were armed — to steal sports memorabilia back from a hotel room. He ultimately served nine years of a 33-year prison sentence.

According to the Associated Press, Simpson had claimed he was attempting to retrieve items that were stolen from him following his acquittal in the 1994 murders of his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman.

“Mr. Simpson is a completely free man now,” the ex-NFL running back’s attorney, Malcolm LaVergne, told the Associated Press.

TMZ reported that Simpson has been living in Las Vegas since his release from prison, though it is unclear if he will stay there now that he has finished parole.
