Investigators have arrested a suspect in the death of an Uber driver reported missing last week and found dead along a wooded hillside in a suburb of Pittsburgh.

WPXI reports that Calvin Crew, 22, was charged Thursday with criminal homicide, robbery, and tampering with evidence in the death of Christina Spicuzza, 38.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Spicuzza spoke with her fiancé on the phone in the evening on February 10, when she told him she was leaving a Monroeville vape shop to do some Uber rides.

Her body was found on Saturday with a single gunshot wound. A few hours before the body was located, investigators found her Nissan Sentra in neighboring Pitcairn with the dash cam missing. Her purse was in the car.

At the time, Uber released a statement saying that it was “working with” police in the investigation, but Spicuzza’s fiance, Brandon Marto, issued a harsh statement questioning the company’s commitment to the safety of its drivers:

“In the first extremely critical hours of my wife’s disappearance, when every second mattered, I feel that I could not have received less help from Uber, even though I was attempting to move mountains to find Christi. I have seen that Uber has released a statement saying they are sending condolences to the family, while ‘working with’ police. Yet I have received no such condolences, and I do not want the public to confuse the words ‘working with’ as ‘cooperating’. I don’t want to see this happen to someone else’s sister, daughter or wife. Uber needs to protect its drivers more and it starts here with Christi.”

Marto thanked the community’s outpouring of support — including other women Uber drivers who told him they often feel unsafe on trips — and Pitcairn Police Chief Scott Farrelly, whose work, he said, went “above and beyond to give our family the answers we were so desperately searching for.”

Crew was arrested by the Allegheny County Police Department, according to KDKA, and booked into the Allegheny County Jail to await his arraignment.
