Delaware State Police are investigating an incident in which a woman carjacked two vehicles, struck two pedestrians — killing one — and crashed both vehicles before two witnesses apprehended her and held her until troopers arrived.

Police have not released the name of the suspect or the victims.

The incident began at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday when the suspect allegedly carjacked a vehicle in New Castle and sped away on Route 9, according to state police. As troopers arrived to investigate the carjacking, they learned that the suspect had struck a pedestrian just blocks away. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene.

The suspect fled that scene and struck another pedestrian in Old New Castle, causing minor injuries, then travelled a few more blocks and crashed. At that location, she allegedly carjacked another vehicle and kidnapped an adult who was inside the car. She crashed for a final time several miles away.

The witnesses — an off duty police officer and former law enforcement officer — detained her at the scene until state troopers arrived to take her into custody.

State police are still investigating and said they would release more information “when known and confirmed.”
