A North Carolina couple who is charged with killing the woman’s two babies was released from custody on Monday after posting bond.

Zharia Noel and Ahmene Butler, both 21, were charged with involuntary manslaughter after her 1-year-old daughter and 3-month-old son, Amariah and Kamryn Noel, were found dead in a parked car in Rocky Mount on Saturday, as CrimeOnline previously reported. The two children were covered in bruises, burns, and marks, according to WTVD.

During Monday’s court hearing, District Judge Beth Freshwater Smith denied prosecutors’ request to increase Zharia and Butler’s $100,000 unsecured bond, allowing the couple to walk out of court the same day.

Neighbors told WTVD that Zharia and her children were homeless on Drew Street, where the grisly discovery was made last week. However, an arrest report has addresses listed for the mother and her boyfriend.

WRAL reported that authorities have not disclosed Amariah and Kamryn’s cause of death, meaning the couple may face upgraded charges once the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office completes its report.

The deceased girl’s uncle reportedly last saw his niece two weeks before her death.

“Don’t abuse the child and hurt the child if you don’t want them,” he told WRAL. “Just give them to somebody that wants them. There’s a lot of people out here that can’t have kids that want kids that could have raised them.”
