An up-and-coming Florida rapper who goes by the name “Rod Wave” has been arrested on a domestic battery charge.

According to jail records, he was booked just after midnight on Monday into the Pinellas County Jail on a count of battery by strangulation. The felony charge stems from an incident that occurred in Osceola County. A warrant for his arrest was issued in December 2021, but authorities have otherwise provided few details on the case.

Green, a St. Petersburg native, launched his music career while he was still a student at Lakewood High School, the Tampa Bay Times reported. He burst into the industry with the startup label, Alamo Records, in 2018, and just two years later, he cracked the Billboard Hot 100 with his song “Heart on Ice.”

Green also recently made headlines for volunteering to donate $25,000 so that St. Petersburg residents could get free gasoline amid the recent price surge.
