COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — A teenage Santiago’s employee was critically injured in a shooting at the Commerce City location Thursday afternoon.

Authorities received a call around 4:07 p.m. for reports of an active shooter at the restaurant, located at E. 72nd Avenue and Highway 85. Joanna Small, public information officer for the Commerce City Police Department, said the entire department, along with members from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene.

When they arrived, they fund a 15-year-old boy, who is an employee, with a gunshot wound.

Investigators determined that the teenage employee and an adult customer got into an argument and both people began firing at one another. The teenager was shot and taken to Children’s Hospital, according to Small.

In a Facebook post, Commerce City PD said the employee was critically injured.

After the shooting, the customer got into the vehicle he arrived in, which was being driven by a woman. She drove away, but pulled over a short time later and called 911. The customer got out and ran off. In addition to the woman, police said two children were also in the car. None of them were injured and they were not involved in the shooting.

Small said the customer is known to police, and the department has dealt with him before.

The customer vehicle was damaged during the shooting.
