Maybe Forest’s goalscorer Harry Toffolo is being naive but he hopes a training-ground pep talk from Miltiadis Marinakis, son of owner Evangelos, shows there is a City Ground future for Steve Cooper.

While Marinakis considers Cooper’s position as Forest’s run extended to one win in 12, the fans and players are right behind the manager who led them into the Premier League.

‘What he has achieved for this club in the past two years is incredible,’ said Toffolo. ‘We are fighting for him. We love him and the day-to-day environment he has created.

Forest were a different animal to Wednesday’s 5-0 surrender at Fulham with Cooper making seven changes — the most of any Premier League team this season.

Toffolo’s header gave them the lead after 14 minutes before Matheus Cunha levelled after half an hour. The visitors then had chances to win it through Cheikhou Kouyate and Toffolo again.

The travelling fans sang Cooper’s name and he thanked them at full time. Spurs visit the City Ground on Friday. ‘I know it will be bouncing,’ added Toffolo.

Wolves have a new hero in £44million striker Cunha. After a slow start to his career in England, he has hit three in four. He is looking up the table after many thought Wolves would be in a relegation fight.

‘I think we can definitely be a top-10 club,’ said the Brazilian. ‘Our mentality can put us there.’
