Neymar has admitted that he is hoping to play alongside legendary ex-teammate Lionel Messi once again in the future.

The Brazilian forward and Messi previously played together at both Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain – the spell alongside one another at the former being much more successful than the latter.

During their four seasons together at Barcelona, Neymar and Messi formed two-thirds of the famous ‘MSN’ front three – along with Luis Suarez – and won two La Liga titles, a UEFA Champions League, three Copa del Rey and a FIFA Club World Cup in one of the most successful eras in the club’s storied history.

Neymar would then up sticks and sign for PSG in 2017, becoming the most expensive footballer in history when the Ligue 1 giants activated the €222m release clause in his Barcelona contract.

Messi shockingly joined Neymar at PSG in 2021 after Barcelona fell into financial difficulties, and the pair would spend a further two seasons playing together. Their second spell playing alongside one another would prove to be much less successful than their first, with Messi struggling for form and Neymar struggling for fitness while at the Parc des Princes.

Both players have since left PSG, with Messi moving to MLS side Inter Miami and Neymar joining Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal.

Speaking to ESPN Argentina at the Bahrain Grand Prix over the weekend, Neymar was keen to leave the door ajar to potentially teaming up with Messi for a third time.

“Hopefully we can play together again. Leo is a great person, everyone knows him in football and I think he is very happy and if he is happy, I am too,” Neymar said.

The Brazilian forward has previously discussed his willingness to play in MLS before he retires, insisting that he wants to play in North America.

“I’d love to play in the US,” said Neymar in 2022.”I’d love to play there at least for a season.”

Messi has also been previously heavily linked with a move to Neymar’s current league in Saudi Arabia, turning down a lucrative offer to move to the Middle East prior to his move to Inter Miami.
